The surroundings of Vevchani are a naturally protected area, characterized by a rich and diverse ecosystem of flora and fauna which are under threat due to due to extreme climate change:
- Long and cold winters, typically with snowfall lasting for several months, which is a critical period for the wildlife in the protected area due to the lack of food and shelter.
- Long and dry summers, resulting in frequent forest fires, which are devastating for both the animal and plant life. The damages from these fires are immeasurable and have significant impacts on the whole ecosystem.
With the project H2N we aim to address these issues by involving local young people from Vevchani and with the support of local authorities, to establish a solid foundation for systematic solutions to animal feeding and protection during the winter period, as well as early detection of forest fires during the summer period.
